Dr. Celidwen is the guest editor for the 2021 Special Issue of the Chinese America: History and Perspectives—the Journal of the Chinese Historical Society of America, a peer-review journal published by the Chinese Historical Society of America. This issue of the Journal is about giving voice to the history of Chinese-Latinxs that has been undocumented and unrecorded, making visible the invisible people who contributed to America(s).
The journal welcomes research on any and all aspects of Chinese Latinxs: Chinese Mexicans/Mexican Chinese Americans; Cuban Chinese; Latin-American Chinese, and Chinese Hispanic American histories. Articles of interest are local histories of Chinatown throughout Latin America and the Caribbean or oral histories of Chinese Latinx individuals and families. This special issue welcomes works that help provide a better understanding of the experiences of the Chinese population who migrated to Latin America and the Caribbean regions during the 19th and 20th century, that led to the formation of a new cultural identity: Chinese Latinxs.
We welcome comparative studies on the Chinese Latinxs among diasporic communities worldwide. Submissions may include but are not limited to research articles (preference for historically grounded research), genealogies and family histories, oral histories, local community histories, historically related narratives, and personal essays related to, directly or tangentially, Chinese Latinxs.
