As part of the 4th International Conference on the Historical Links between Spain and North America this presentation advances the dialogue of psychological atonement of the intergenerational trauma imposed upon Indigenous peoples in Mexico by the Catholic Church through the colonization process of the Americas. It develops the mythological and depth psychological process of “shadow-facing” through the icon of the Lady of Guadalupe. It builds the point that the unconscious bias and cultural imposition of the religiosity of the Spanish psyche as roots of the religious consciousness keeps the racist bias and lack of access to education, resources, health services, and the rights to self-determination of Indigenous peoples in Mexico today.
